Cobra Administration

The Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA) gives workers and their families who lose their health benefits the right to choose to continue group health benefits provided by their group health plan for limited periods of time under certain circumstances such as voluntary or involuntary job loss, reduction in the hours worked, transition between jobs, death, divorce, and other life events. Qualified individuals may be required to pay the entire premium for coverage up to 102 percent of the cost to the plan.

Vision Plan

With low premiums and benefits covering eye exams, frames and lenses with just small co-payments it’s easy to see the growing popularity of vision insurance.  Stand-alone plans are available for companies with as few as two employees and can be added as riders to dental plans. When looking at cost as with dental, vision plans can be employer paid, employee paid or any combination of the two.

Group Dental Insurance

With the cost of a dental visit for a routine checkup and cleaning well in excess of $100, often more than $200 when x-rays are involved, it’s no wonder that dental insurance is the next most requested benefit after health.  Unfortunately, in the current economy many companies have had to cut back on dental benefits and many more are considering dropping dental altogether.  We are here with great news!  If you currently have a dental plan we can show you how, to continue offering dental to your employees while significantly reducing your costs.    Our experience shows at least 30% of employees will eagerly enroll in completely voluntary dental insurance.   These voluntary plans have low (3 enrolled) minimum participation requirements and are true dental insurance, not discount programs.

We believe that, at a minimum, a dental insurance plan should cover routine checkups and cleanings every six months with no out of pocket cost and provide basic services such as fillings with only minimal cost.  Different plan designs can go beyond that to include major work (such as root canals and crowns), generally at 50%.   Depending upon your group size and the type of plan you select you may also even offer orthodontia coverage (most plans require a minimum of 10 employees for orthodontia).

Group Life and Disability

For many Americans the only life insurance they have is what is provided through their place of employment and, with the cost of individual disability insurance rather prohibitive for the average person, most also look to the workplace for disability coverage.   Employers can rest easily, however.  Group term life insurance is inexpensive and guaranteed issue for groups with five or more employees  and many plans include the option for voluntary spousal and child coverage.

Short-term and long-term disability plans are also available at little or no cost to the employer’s business and, may be guaranteed issue with as few as two employees.

Group Health Insurance

With as few as two enrolled employees and a modest employer contribution, any company can offer group health insurance.  With countless plan designs to select from, from Copay Plans and PPOs to HSAs to HRAs to HMOs and even combinations, the small business can have a group health insurance program that rivals the largest companies.  Don’t worry about the terminology, we convert it all into simple English and also explain it to your employees.   Think of us as the unpaid employee who takes care of your benefits.  We’ll work with you to design the best plan for your particular needs and negotiate with the insurance companies for the most favorable rates.  We’ll even sign you up with an association if there is a significant enough discount available.

Medicare

Medicare Terminology

Medicare Part A – Hospital Insurance.  Part A  helps cover inpatient care in hospitals, skilled nursing facility, hospice and home health care.

Medicare Part B -  Medical Insurance.  PArt B helps cover doctor’s services and outpatient care.

Original Medicare is Medicare Part A and Medicare Part B and is run by the Federal Government.

Medicare Supplement Insurance or Medigap is a private health insurance that helps pay some of the health care costs like deductibles, coinsurance and copays that Original Medicare doesn’t cover.  This is a supplement to your Original Medicare plan.

Medicare Part C is a Medicare Advantage Plan.  These are health coverage choices run by private insurance companies that have been approved by Medicare and are often structured with copayments like an HMO or PPO.  If you elect a Medicare Advantage Plan you will receive all of your Medicare Benefits directly from that company.  They may offer extra coverage and prescription drug coverage.

Medicare Part D is  Prescription Drug Coverage.  It helps cover the cost of prescription drugs and is sold directly by private health insurance companies.

Voluntary Health Insurance

Many businesses cannot afford to provide traditional group medical insurance for their employees, but this doesn’t stop them from having an appealing benefits program.   By making the employee premiums for individual and family health insurance tax free, you are able to provide them with savings of 30% or more and reduce your company’s payroll taxes in the process.   We set you up with the necessary documentation to ensure your plan is in compliance, meet with each employee to help them select the plan that works best for them and enroll them in it.   You collect the premiums from your employees via payroll deduction and send them to the insurance company who will provide you with a “list bill” each month.   If an employee leaves, their plan is portable and you have no responsibility other than sending the insurance company the premiums you have already collected.
